How We Selected The Best Infant Car Seat Covers

We are committed to bringing you useful information about the top rated infant car seat covers on the market.

In order to do this, we have spent many hours gathering feedback from other consumers’ experiences, researching specifications, and comparing various brands and types.

We divided our favorites into two subgroups: Summer Use vs Winter Use

Of course, some types can be used for both and there is overlap based on how hot or cold the seasons get in your area.

The top considerations when creating our list were elements such as: Quality, Function, Versatility, Ease of Use, and Price.

We recognize that different types of covers meet different kinds of needs, so we also attempted to provide some variety in our selections for this purpose.

Best Infant Car Seat Cover Canopies For Spring and Summer

When spring and summer arrive, it is important to use a car seat cover that isn’t too heavy. You definitely don’t want your baby to overheat!

Here we have listed our favorite covers that are breezy and lightweight. Sun shade and insect protection are also important in these seasons.

We gave preference to covers that are made with quality fabrics, stay in position, hug tightly to the car seat, and help keep baby cool and comfortable.

Baby Car Seat Canopy, Nursing Scarf, Breastfeeding Cover, Shopping Cart Cover and Stroller Sunshade By SimpleTots for Boys & Girls. Multi Use - The Perfect Baby Shower Gift for New Moms (Aztec)

The Best Infant Car Seat Cover Canopy For Spring and Summer

The SimpleTots stretchy cover is our favorite for summer because it is so lightweight, versatile, so easy to use, fits most car seats the best, is made of quality fabric, and is a great price!

Stretchy and versatile, this car seat cover also can be used as a breastfeeding cover, a scarf, a stroller sunshade, and shopping cart cover! And in pinch, even works as a blanket or changing area! It is a tubular shape and is known for being the perfect size to hug virtually every car seat!

The print is a gorgeous black and white aztec/southwest design perfect for boys and girls alike. Made of quality lightweight fabric, it is soft and breathable. Designed to keep baby cool in warm weather, it also feels warm if the breeze is just a little chilly.

It offers 360° protection and privacy for baby, blocking out bright light, wind, light rain, bugs, and nosy people with germs. It is simple to slide on/off the car seat and allows you to peek in on your baby with ease.

PROS:

We are in love with the size and quality of this product. It fits so well and holds up to daily use and frequent washing.

The durability and versatility is top-notch and makes this cover so useful. We like that it stays on the car seat because it is long enough and snug enough.

CONS:

The main drawback to this product is that it only comes in one print and color scheme, so if you were wanting a different look, then you might feel like this is limiting.

Plus, a few people have reported that it is too small for them to use a nursing cover or on a shopping cart.

The Bottom Line

We love this cover, as do many other parents! If you are looking for a snug and stretchy cover that is not too short and not too loose, then this is the cover for you!

Plus, it doubles as a bit of fashion in between uses, so it’s easy to keep handy for when you need it again!

A well-loved favorite of many moms, the Milk Snob Cover is made of high-quality, stretchy fabric that can be easily pulled on (and off) your car seat to provide shade and privacy.

Plus, it can be used as a comfy nursing cover so that you can breastfeed comfortably wherever you are.

As a tube-shaped cover, it offers 360° protection from the elements and prying eyes.

Milk Snob Cover Milky Stripe

It also can be used as a shopping cart cover or high chair cover, or even as a beautiful scarf! It comes in many different beautiful prints and colors so that you and your baby can get your fashion on!

The fabric is soft and breathable and stretches in all 4 directions and is designed to keep baby comfortable and cool when it is warm, but also provides a bit of coziness if you are chilly.

PROS:

We love all the color and print selections available by the Milk Snob company!

The fabric is ultra-soft and is made of high-quality material. It fits most car seats, plus has so many other uses that the versatility is amazing.

Plus, it makes a perfect baby shower gift!

CONS:

There are a few reports of the cover being too big for some car seats (or stretching out after a few uses).

This seems to be a minority of cases, but is worth mentioning. Though it is considered by most to be made of quality fabric that holds up, a few customers have reported a few tiny holes.

This cover is somewhat expensive and also, some moms don’t care for the sewn-on logo on the front while they are breastfeeding.

The Bottom Line

Overall loved by many, this is an easy recommendation to make. If you want a stretchy tube-shaped cover and don’t mind if it fits a little loosely, but definitely want to pick a beautiful pattern or color scheme, then you will probably love the Milk Snob!

Designed with two velcro tabs that attach to the handle of the car seat, this cover hangs loosely over and around baby and seat.

It is lightweight, but not so much that the wind can easily lift it. It has a “peek-a-boo” snap design in front so you can easily look at baby without disturbing her.

Car Seat Canopy and Nursing Cover Up with Peekaboo Opening - Arrow Grey

Made of quality fabric that comes in multiple prints, Kids N’ Such has a 10,000 Wash Warranty, which means that they guarantee that this cover will hold up nicely for a long time! Designed to block sunlight, this cover provides a dark, quiet space for baby to sleep.

Not only can it be used as a canopy for the car seat, but it also doubles as breastfeeding cover! Simply place it backwards around your neck and snap to create a V-neck opening for you to watch your baby during feeding. It can also work as a blanket or playmat for baby, too!

PROS:

We like this cover because it provides a fairly dark space for baby with just a snap. It can also be folded back and snapped out of the way for easy access or if baby gets too warm. It fits most car seats and is super easy to install and remove.

We also like that it can be used as a breastfeeding cover, a blanket, or a playmat for baby. Multiple functions give it better value and help you reduce your need to carry multiple items with you.

CONS:

Because it doesn’t have any elastic around the bottom, it does not fit snugly, so it is possible for the wind to lift it up, meaning you may have to adjust it frequently on a windy day. It doesn’t protect against insects and doesn’t let a breeze pass over baby unless the wind does catch it.

Can be used as a nursing cover, but may be considered too large and cumbersome for some moms to use in this way.

The Bottom Line

For a simple drape-style cover, this one is beautifully made and is very stylish. It is affordable and great for keeping the sun off of your baby. If you are looking for something that can double as a nursing cover that drapes rather than hugs, then you may want to consider this style.

This is a very unique product that works differently than most other car seat covers on the market.

The top is like a stand up canopy that pops open when you remove it from the carrying case. It slides on/off easily, with an elastic band around the bottom to snug it into place.

The upper portion is made of two parts. The underside is a fully zippered breathable mesh that completely protects your baby from insects and debri.

Munchkin Brica Infant Comfort Canopy Car Seat Cover, Helps Block UVA/UVB Rays, Grey

On top of that, is an optional rain guard and sunshade that blocks 98% of the sun’s rays that can be pulled over the mesh.

This canopy allows your baby to stay cool on a hot day via the mesh top and sides. When not in use, it stores in a handy pouch. After you remove it, just twist it slightly and bring the front and back together. It will collapse into a small circle that you can store in the provided bag.

PROS:

Perfect for hot, sunny days or outings where you want to block mosquitos, flies, gnats, and other insects from landing on your baby.

We love the unique pop-up design and the optional shade cover. It is excellent for keeping baby protected and cool.

CONS:

There are some minor design flaws that make this cover frustrating for some parents.

First, the side panels are only mesh, which is great for airflow, but they do let in rain and wind and allow sunlight on your baby’s face if the angle is just right.

Furthermore, the upper flap is quite lightweight and there isn’t a way to secure it tightly, which means that it can lift easily, allowing the wind and rain to underneath. And finally, several parents dislike that the zippered mesh doesn’t open up far enough to get baby in and out easily.

The Bottom Line

Though there are some potential issues with this cover and the company didn’t think of everything, if you are looking for something to keep bugs away from your baby while keeping them cool, this cover certainly deserves your attention. It might be just the thing you need.

This is one of the simplest and most lightweight covers available.

It merely attaches with two straps on the handle of the car seat and then hangs freely downward over the seat. It’s basically like having a breathable muslin blanket that doesn’t fall off.

The 100% muslin cotton is very soft and provides a simple but large size (47”x35”) cover to protect your baby from the sun, as well as providing privacy from curious onlookers.

Baby Car Seat Cover, Unisex Large Lightweight Breathable Cotton Muslin Canopy

Because it is loose all around the bottom, it may move around with the wind or blow up at times. Most parents simply tuck the ends of the cover underneath the corners of the car seat to hold it into place.

The cover is white with a pretty gray star print and is perfectly neutral for boys or girls. It is machine-washable and durable, while not being heavy. The straps are attached via quality hook & loop fasteners.

PROS:

Affordable and lightweight, this cover allows you to sneak a peek at your baby with just a lift of the corner. It is perfect for warm summer days. We like that it is so easy to put on and take off.

We also love that it doubles as a beautiful, lightweight nursing cover as well that can offer mom a private place to breastfeed.

CONS:

The wind can blow the fabric up, around, off of the baby, or even right into the car seat itself, so it’s not the most secure cover.

Also, it may wrinkle when laundered, as it is a lightweight muslin cotton fabric.

The Bottom Line

Are you looking for something inexpensive, lightweight, and hassle-free? This cover is very basic, but versatile and simple to use. If you don’t want something hugging the car seat, this cover is our recommendation.

Best Infant Car Seat Covers For Fall and Winter

When it comes to fall and winter, covers take on a whole new meaning.

You can’t dress a baby in a heavy coat or snowsuit when putting them in a car seat, so the best option is to keep them warm with a cozy cover. We also like weather-resistant covers that help block wind and rain!

The factors that we took into consideration when choosing covers include: warmth, quality of materials, simple access to baby, and ease of use.

Stretchy Baby Car Seat Covers for Boys Girls Infant Car Canopy Spring Autumn Winter,Snug Warm Breathable Windproof, Adjustable Peep Window,Universal Fit,Black White Stripe-Patented Design

The Best Infant Car Seat Cover For Fall and Winter

The Acrabos “shower-cap” style cover is our favorite for winter, fall, and spring because it keeps your baby cozy and warm with a minky lining and a secure top flap, plus it has an insect mesh screen to use when needed.

The dual zippers give easy access to baby and helps you to adjust temperature control so that baby doesn’t overheat. Plus it fits well and is great quality.

This is our top pick for a car seat cover that can be used from fall to winter to spring! It is a stretchy design that pulls over and hugs tightly to the car seat. It is minky-lined to provide extra warmth for baby, while also being breathable and wind-resistant.

The front of the cover has two zippers that can be opened for easy access to get your baby in and out of the seat with minimal effort. Plus it comes with a fold-down flap to keep the wind off baby’s face. We love that just by adjusting the zippers, you can modify the light, temperature, ventilation, and visibility for your baby, giving them the most comfortable environment possible.

The cover is equipped with four snaps to keep the cover firmly in place, plus it has an optional see-thru insect-proof mesh that can be folded down into place when desired. The whole cover folds up and fits inside the storage pouch that is located on the head flap.

Plus, it comes in multiple stylish prints, giving you lots of fun choices.

PROS:

We love the zipper opening on this stretchy slip-on cover! This is the feature that impresses us the most!

Not only is it easy to get a baby in and out, it is easy to check on them and adjust their comfort level. We also love the ultra-soft fabric and minky lining!

We also love that it can be mostly opened while utilizing the mesh cover for keeping insects and debris away from baby. When used like this, it is possible to use it even in warmer weather. Plus we love the print options!

CONS:

This is not really suited for very cold winters, so don’t expect it to be very thick or warm enough for really cold climates

The Bottom Line

This beautiful cover has unique features and is made of soft, high-quality fabric that makes it a consumer favorite. If you want a cover that is simple to use and that is easy to adjust for varying factors, don’t hesitate to choose this one. It is affordable, versatile, and beautiful.

This warm and cozy cover has a “shower-cap” design wherein the bottom has elastic that hugs the car seat when you slip it into place.

The topside has a zipper flap with a fold down face cover. The zippered front can be opened or removed completely for temperature control.

The top side of the fabric is a weather-resistant nylon that deflects light rain and wind.

JJ Cole Weather-Resistant Blanket-Style Canopy Car Seat Cover, Grey Herringbone

The underside is a soft fleece blanket-like material for warmth and comfort. There are several different fabric patterns and colors to choose, so that you can show off your style.

PROS:

Not only easy-to-use and very classy-looking, we like the JJ Cole Car Seat Cover because of its protective upper layer that feels like a windbreaker. Plus, it is very soft and cozy on the inside.

The zipper is also easy to use and allows you to control how much air circulation your baby gets. We also like that the top portion can be entirely zipped off.

CONS:

We don’t like that the fold down face flap does not have anything to secure it in place, neither when open or closed. This means that it can be caught by a gust of wind and blown around, leaving baby exposed or dropping the flap on baby’s face unexpectedly.

A few parents have reported that it doesn’t fit their car seat properly, but most don’t have this problem.

The Bottom Line

If you need a cover that fully covers baby face and can be secured in that position, then you might feel frustrated with this option. However, if you live in a milder climate or don’t like to keep your baby’s face covered anyway, then this may be a workable option for you.

A super cute car seat cover, the Skip Hop has a fun design.

The top portion fastens in place with a zipper, with two face flaps that fold back to reveal the soft and fuzzy fleece inner lining. The face flaps can be snapped open or closed.

If baby is too warm (or to keep them from overheating) simply unzip and roll the top of the cover to the side and secure with a snap. Or remove the top of the cover completely.

Skip Hop Winter Car Seat Cover: Ultra Plush Fleece, Grey Feather

These features are also great for when you need to put your baby in, or take them out of, the seat.

The entire seat cover has a shower-cap design with an elastic bottom that you simply slide over the car seat for a snug fit. It is very classy-looking and comes in several color options. The outer layer of fabric is also weather-resistant and repels light rain and snow.

PROS:

We love the strong elastic that holds this cover in place. The inner fleece lining is very warm and cozy, making this cover perfect for really cold winters.

Plus, it is a really beautiful cover and we love how the face opening frames a baby’s cute face.

CONS:

The biggest drawback that we noticed is that the face flap has an open gap at the top when snapped over baby’s face. This gap could potentially let wind/rain in and gives a baby a place to stick an arm out.

There are also a few reports that the zipper may come down too easily, especially if baby gets their hand in the gap and pushes downward.

The Bottom Line

Overall, we love this cover and think that it is very well-made. It is not the cheapest winter cover, but it’s many great features make it worth more. We definitely recommend it for cold climates for parents looking for this style of zipper!

This is a stretchy, double-layer, fleece-lined infinity tubular-shaped car seat cover that simply slips over and hugs the car seat tightly for 360° full coverage. It has a canopy cap that flaps over to eliminate any drafts.

Not only is it designed to be used as a cover for your infant car seat, but also as a cozy breastfeeding cover, a shopping cart cover, and a high chair cover. The versatility of this product is amazing!

Car Seat Canopy Nursing Cover - Multi Use Baby Stroller and Carseat Cover, Breastfeeding Nursing Covers, Boys and Girls Shower Gifts (Classical Arrows)

It is the perfect thickness for mild to moderate winter weather and may be used from fall until spring. The pretty neutral print has a gray-colored winter-theme and that cover comes with a matching carry bag.

PROS:

We love the durable quality of this cover and the fact that it is so easy to use! Just slide it on and go!

Plus, the fact that it can be used in so many ways makes it even more appealing and increases its use value. Also, it is packaged in a beautiful box perfect for gift-giving.

CONS:

Definitely not the warmest cover, so if you live in an area with harsh winters, this may not be adequate. The stretchy cover may not fit every car seat perfectly, so be prepared for the possibility of a little looseness depending on your model.

Also, keep in mind that you will need to remove this cover before putting your baby in or taking your baby out of the car seat because it doesn’t have any large openings.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for an easy-to-use, medium-weight slip-on cover canopy that isn’t expensive, you will probably love this one by Hicoco! Not only is it fashionable and cute, but it is so versatile that you will be able to use it in lots of different ways!

Weather-resistant and insulating, this cover is perfect for climates with mild winters.

The dual-zipper design on the top allows easy access to your baby, as well as allows you to open the cover to keep them from overheating.

The face flap is breathable and shields your baby’s face for additional coverage in inclement weather or on cold days. It secures with a strip of hook & loop fastener to keep it closed even on a windy day.

Cozy Cover Infant Car Seat Cover (Black Quilt) - The Industry Leading Infant Carrier Cover Trusted by Over 6 Million Moms Worldwide for Keeping Your Baby Cozy & Warm

This cover has a shower-cap design with elastic around the bottom and it is easy to put on and take off. You simply pull it over the car seat and it will grip around the sides. Please keep in mind that only the quilted versions of this cover are lined for winter.

PROS:

We love the dual zippers for easy access and temperature control. This cover is well-made, though only the quilted versions are warm and cozy. We like the fact that the face flap can secure into place.

CONS:

There are a few minor complaints about this cover, despite being a favorite of many. First, apparently there are some car seats that it doesn’t fit on very well. And secondly, some parents find it too difficult to put their baby in/out with the cover on the car seat.

Finally, some babies are able to stick their hands between the flap and the top of the zippers and open the cover by pushing downward. This is possibly due to weak zippers and because the flap is only secured by a small tab of hook & loop.

The Bottom Line

If you need a lightweight winter cover, the quilted versions of this seat are perfect for that because they have a soft lining on the inside! Lots of families like this cover because of the great design and nice quality.

Safety Warnings for Infant Car Seat Covers

Because car seat covers are an aftermarket item that are not safety-tested by the manufacturer of the car seat, we generally do not recommend their use while driving with your child. There is some controversy on this matter, however, and not all experts agree on whether they pose a risk.

If the car seat cover in no way interferes with the correct position of the handle and does not come in between the car seat and the vehicle seat, nor in between any buckles or straps, then it may be okay to leave the cover in position and may not interfere with the function of the car seat.

However, we do agree with the experts that a car seat cover over a baby can cause them to overheat or not have sufficient airflow, especially when inside a vehicle. If you do not choose to completely remove the cover while driving, at least unzip or otherwise open the cover for adequate air circulation.

One other area of concern if you use the car seat cover while driving, please remember that the fabric is not treated with a fire-retardant (as the fabric on a car seat is). So, in the event of an accident, if fire does become an issue, bear in mind that there is a greater risk of death or injury.

If possible, we recommend that you simply remove the car seat cover when you snap the seat into the vehicle, as this eliminates any possible risk factors.

Another WORD OF CAUTION:

Please do not leave your infant to sleep in a car seat when it is simply sitting on the ground, floor, counter, sofa, or other surface. Infant car seats must be positioned properly in their bases, strapped in a car, or clicked into a stroller travel system in order to safely position a baby!

A baby who is left sleeping, or unmonitored in general, while in an infant car seat that is not properly strapped into a car or stroller can have difficulty breathing when their head falls too far forward. This can create positional asphyxiation and the baby can die from suffocation.

BE AWARE! If your car seat has a cover on it, then this risk is even greater simply because the baby is hidden from view and a problem may not be identified in time.
