Pros of Using Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat
There are so many things to like about this car seat, including the extra legroom it offers for extended rear-facing and the easy installation it offers when using the LATCH system. Here is a breakdown of our favorite features and why:
1. It allows rear-facing up to 50 pounds.
Most convertible car seats max out at 40 lbs for rear-facing, so this seat really goes the extra mile. This will allow your child the ability to rear-face until they reach a whopping 50 pounds. For some kids, that will take them right into older toddlerhood and maybe even could fit them until they are an amazing 5-6 years old!
2. There is a unique pullout legroom tray extension.
This is one of the neatest features that we have seen for extended rear-facing. Now as your child’s legs grow longer, they will stay comfortable for much longer. The extender has 4 different positions that provide extra space. This allows your older/bigger backward-facing child to find a better spot for their feet and legs and get more comfortable.
3. It has the upgraded EZ TIGHT LATCH.
Up until your child is 45 pounds, you are going to get a very simple install on this car seat due to the EZ Tight LATCH system, which works by allowing you to slide the hooks into position and then simply tighten one strap until it is nice and snug. After your child surpasses 45 lbs, you will need to forego the LATCH system and install the seat with the vehicle seat belt.
4. Most versions feature the RapidRemove Cover for easy cleaning.
Instead of needing to dismantle the entire seat to remove the cover, Graco has an easy unsnap and lift away cover that allows you to quickly get the fabric removed so that you can throw it in the washing machine. It is, however, recommended to drip dry it and not put it in the dryer.
5. It has buckle pockets.
On either side of the seat, you will find two small pockets to push the buckles into while helping your child into or out of the seat. This keeps the belt and buckles from ending up underneath their bottom and hard to access.
6. It is very affordable.
Considering the price of car seats these days, we are very impressed that this unique and wonderfully-made seat is very cost-effective. The fact that it can be used a long time adds even more value to it.
7. It is easily adjusted to different positions and heights.
With the 6-position recline option and adjustable 10-position headrest, you will be able to easily get this car seat to fit your child properly and help them feel comfortable. The one-handed levers mean that you won’t be rethreading straps or taking anything apart to make these adjustments, either! Just grab and pull or push to put the headrest and recline exactly where you need them.
Cons of Using Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat
Not every seat can be altogether perfect, so it’s just as important to fill you in on the not-so-great news, too. When a seat is designed to be used rear-facing for a long time, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it works great if you don’t, nor does it answer the question of will it even fit?
1. If you turn this seat around and use front-facing too soon, it must be kept at an awkward angle.
What this means is that if you don’t decide to keep your child rear-facing for an extended period of time, then when you do front face, it might make your child sit uncomfortably. This problem only exists because you must use the #4 incline position if your child is forward-facing between 22-40 pounds.
2. When the leg extension tray is fully extended, this car seat may not fit in all vehicles.
Obviously, not all vehicles can accommodate the extra overall back-to-front dimensions of this car seat when the legroom tray is pulled all the way out. If you have a small vehicle, test it out or think twice before deciding on this car seat.
Conclusion: Do We Recommend Graco Extend2Fit?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is included with the Graco Extend2Fit?
It has 2 integrated cupholders and also comes with removable infant inserts that can be stored once your child is no longer a newborn. Plus it comes with a user manual that we highly recommend you read before using the seat.
How safe is the Graco Extend2Fit convertible car seat?
All car seats sold in the US are required by law to pass Minimum Federal Safety Standards and this car seat is no exception. It is engineered and rigorously crash tested to meet or exceed US Standard FMVSS 213. Plus, it has been side-crash tested for occupant retention solely with the 5-point harness.
Is it easy to install and use the Graco Extend2Fit?
Yes, it comes equipped with the EZ TIGHT LATCH system which can be used to install the seat until your child weighs 45 pounds. This means that you simply click the inline latches to your vehicle’s LATCH bars and then pull the strap to tighten. After your child exceeds 45 lbs, you will then need to install the car seat using the vehicle’s seat belt, which is slightly less convenient.
Can I use Graco Extend2Fit with a small car?
Possibly not if you wish to extend the legroom tray completely out. That being said, it is similar in size to other comparable car seats if the legroom tray is pushed in and not in use.
How easy is it to clean?
It is easy to spot clean, but that’s not all. Most versions of the Extend2Fit have the RapidRemove cover that allows you to quickly pull the seat cover away from the shell. You likely will not even need to unbuckle the seat from the car to do so! Simply raise the headrest all the way, unsnap the fabric cover, and remove. The cover is machine-washable and should be line-dried.
Is Graco Extend2Fit FAA approved?
Yes, this car seat is approved for use in aircraft, as long as it is seated on a forward-facing airplane seat with a seat belt. It can be installed either rear-facing or front-facing. Contact your chosen airline for any specific policies that they may have.
When can you turn your child forward-facing?
In this seat, all infants and toddlers must be rear-facing if they weigh less than 22 pounds. Most state laws also have the restriction that a child must be rear-facing until they are 2 years old. However, best practice dictates that children should max out the limits of their seat before being turned forward-facing. With this seat, that allows most children to ride rear-facing up to 50 pounds.
Are there other car seats that can accommodate 50 pounds?
Yes, the Graco ExtendtoFit 3-in-1 Car Seat and the Clek Fllo Car Seat also both will allow you to do extended rear-facing up to 50 pounds. Please feel free to check out our reviews of those seats as well.
